LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court has directed the Water and Sanitation Authority (Wasa) to take samples of drinking water from around the city, get them examined at the Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) laboratory and report the results to the court by December 19.
Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan was hearing a petition against the decrepit sewerage system and unclean drinking water supply.
A Wasa official told the court that the agency addressed citizens’ complaints about drinking water and the sewerage system promptly. He said old sewerage lines were being replaced in light of the complaints.
Petitioner Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi said that Wasa included sewerage charges in its bills, but the sewage system was a mess and the water supply was unclean. He said that the sewage system in places was choked and dirty water flowed on the roads and streets. He asked the court to direct Wasa to improve the sewage system and supply clean water.
