Armed robbers stormed into a gold jewellery shop in Hyderi Market on Monday and took away gold worth million of rupees.
At least four of the half dozen armed robbers entered Ismail Jewellers in Khursheed Cloth Market and held the shopkeepers and customers hostage at gunpoint. After looting the gold, they fled from the spot.
Police officials reached the site but the culprits had already fled. DSP Shahid Abbas said that the actual amount of the gold robbed has yet to be ascertained as the owner of the shop was still determining its value, however, it was estimated to be around Rs1 million to Rs2 million.
He said that the police was trying to draw sketches of the culprits with the help of witnesses, however, no case has been registered. Shopkeepers at the market also staged a protest and demanded the law enforcers recover the looted gold ornaments and arrest the culprits.
