Doctor shot in Karachi 'target killing'

A man identified as Dr Naseem was killed when unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle fired at him, Express News reported Monday.

Police said the incident is probably an instance of target killing, adding that they cannot be sure at this stage of the investigation.
Chhipa ambulances transported the doctor's body to Jinnah Hospital shortly after the incident.
This is the second instance of alleged target killing today. Earlier in the day, Dr Sher Ali was reportedly targeted in Karachi's Manghopir.
Rising Violence
The past few months have seen a rise in killings of doctors and on October 10, doctors held a demonstration to highlight the rise in violence against them. According to the demonstrators, as many as 21 doctors have been kidnapped so far in the past couple of years, and 14 were killed in targeted attacks.
On October 7, a senior doctor of Orangi Town’s Qatar Hospital was among three people who were gunned down in targeted attacks.
Dr Irfanuddin Qureshi, 54, was serving as the medico-legal officer at Qatar Hospital but he was targeted at his private clinic, Minhajuddin Medical Centre, in Sector 1-C of the same neighbourhood.
In June this year, a Shia doctor was seriously injured and his gunman was killed when terrorists in police uniform tried to kidnap him in Peshawar.
Dr Shakir Hussain is an assistant professor at the Lady Reading Hospital. In the same incident, one of the kidnappers was killed by the doctor’s gunmen.
