Muharram plan: Sanaullah vows ‘fool-proof’ security

'A ban on the use of loudspeakers, graffiti and public display of arms will be enforced,' says minister.

The government will make sure that security at processions and gatherings held in Muharram is “fool-proof”, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Sunday.

“A ban on the use of loudspeakers, graffiti and public display of arms will be enforced,” the minister told APP. He said that clerics who make hate speeches would be punished.

Sanaullah said that the chief minister had ordered officials to set up a command and control room to monitor the security situation in Lahore. Some 4,000 policemen would be on duty during the Ashura procession, he added.

Meanwhile, Peace Committee for Inter-faith Harmony Punjab Vice President Zaheer Ahmad Butt urged all political parties, clerics and scholars to promote peace and understanding in Muharram.

He said that every Muslim, regardless of sect, had a duty to promote peace. He said religious and political parties must watch out for any extremist elements.
