The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) will begin preparations for the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Zone Group I ties in January, where veteran player Saeed Hai will be the chief selector for the team.
PTF Secretary Mumtaz Yousuf said that preparations for Davis Cup will start later this month, while a camp will take place in the second week of January. They will play their first round tie with Vietnam in February.
The selectors will pick two players from the local circuit, whereas tennis ace Aisamul Haq Qureshi and domestic top-seed Aqeel Khan will be the key players in Pakistan’s campaign at the tournament.
The secretary further added that Samir Iftikhar, who was a part of the Davis Cup team in 2011 in South Korea, could not participate for Pakistan as a result of playing in the US Inter-Collegiate events.
Iftikhar became the third Pakistani to qualify for the US University Tennis National Indoor Inter-Collegiate Championships, which will take place in New York from November 7.
