Nadra clears doubts: No ban on issuance of smart cards
NADRA clarifies that IHC did not impose a ban on the issuance of SNIC.
ISLAMABAD:
An official of NADRA clarified that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) did not impose a ban on the issuance of Smart National ID Card (SNIC). He said a division bench of IHC on October 28, ordered NADRA only to maintain the status quo on procurement of smart cards prior to October 9, 2013 decision, till final disposal of the appeal. Neither was the issuance of SNIC challenged in any court of law nor was any stay order passed regarding that, said the official. The order came in response to an intra-court appeal filed by a private Karachi-based firm which was earlier dismissed after series of hearings by Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui. His verdict of October 9 clearly maintains that no illegality or misdemeanour has taken place in the entire process of procurement.
