LAHORE:

“Focal persons have been appointed at all nine towns in the city to monitor administration,” District Coordination Officer (DCO) Ahmed Javed Qazi said on Friday.

Talking to The Express Tribune, the DCO said the focal persons appointed were: the district officer (coordination) for Shalimar Town, the additional deputy commissioner (revenue) for Data Ganj Buksh Town, the DO (Human Resource Management) for Aziz Bhatti Town, the DMO for Nishtar Town, the GA-1 for Ravi Town, the DDO (HRM) for Gulberg Town, the DO (M&I) for Iqbal Town, the GA-2 for Wagha Town and the ADCG for Samanabad Town.

Qazi said his priority was to improve administration. “It is better to fix the existing system of governance than to introduce a new one,” he said.

He said the focal persons would keep him updated on the progress of development work in the towns.

“I will make sure the officers are doing their job,” he said.

Qazi also appealed to the philanthropists to help the poor. He said everyone should play their part to ensure the poor did not starve.

He said the city government was considering a plan under which free rotis would be provided to the poor. “Those wanting to help should get in touch with the district administration,” he said.

The DCO said overcharging would not be tolerated. “We are monitoring the vendors at Sunday bazaars,” he said.

Qazi said eradication of dengue fever was the government’s top priority. He said anti-dengue teams had been formed for every town to ensure fumigation and drainage of stagnant water.
