Planning ahead: TRTA offers a chance of progress

Qureshi hoped that the TRTA II project would be extended for at least two years.

ISLAMABAD: During a two-member meeting of the Trade Related Technical Assistance Programme (TRTA-II), Federal Secretary of Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) Kamran Ali Qureshi, said that the programme is helping Pakistan integrate into the world economy. The TRTA team briefed the secretary about the overall objectives of the programme. It was revealed that this project would focus on four major areas such as, Standardization and Certification, Accreditation, Metro-Logy and internationally recognised accreditation of testing laboratories. TRTA-II has two components and for one of them MoST is the focal ministry. Qureshi was  also briefed about that achievements made under TRTA. The secretary assured that MoST would do its best to address any challenges and ensure sustainability of testing labs. Qureshi hoped that the TRTA II project would be extended for at least two years.
