Participatory promotion: WCLA proposes photography competition

The Walled city of Lahore Authority (WCLA) has proposed to host a photography exhibition and competition in collaboration with the Lahore Photography Club (LPC) from January 4 to 9, The Express Tribune has learnt.


The WCLA has proposed Tollington Market or the Alhamra as the venue for the exhibition. It has suggested three names for the competition; Wekh Lahore, The Spirit of Lahore and Mera Lahore. The WCLA has proposed two categories for the photography competition; Street Life and Magnificent Monuments.



Participants of the competition will be allowed to submit four pictures in the two categories. The WCLA will charge a fee of Rs1,500 per photograph. The judges for first stage of competition will be two representatives each from the LPC and the WCLA. The final stage would judged by the WCLA director general, LPC president, a professional photographer and an architect.  Talking to The Express Tribune, WCLA Deputy Director Tania Qureshi said the pictures would be judged on the subject, clarity, framing and composition.


She said the judges will also look for focus, sharpness, detail, depth of field, exposure, light control, colour, brightness, contrast and saturation.

Qureshi said the first prize for the proposed competition was Rs50,000. The second and third prizes would be Rs25,000 and Rs10,000.

Qureshi said some photographs will also be sold in the exhibition.

Talking to The Express Tribune, WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari said he hoped the photography competition would attract a wide variety of entries. Lashari said the contest was a part of his strategy to promote the architecture of the Walled City.

Lashari said photographers from all over the country were expected to participate in the event.
