IED blast: Five soldiers killed in Waziristan blast
Officials say the blast occurred at about 9 30 am when security personnel were on routine patrol of the area.
DERA ISMAIL KHAN:
Five security personnel were killed and two others sustained injuries when an improvised explosive device detonated along the roadside in the Zatrai area of Tehsil Sarwakai in South Waziristan on Wednesday.
Officials told The Express Tribune that the blast occurred at about 9 30 am when security personnel were on routine patrol of the area.
Two died on the spot, while five sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Army Field Hospital in District Tank for treatment, according to a security official.
Three of the injured later succumbed to their wounds.
It is pertinent to note that the area was cleared of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s militants by Pakistani security forces in Operation Rah-e-Nijaat in 2009. However, despite the operation, Pakistani security forces have come under attack several times. So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
