Court grants more time for 14 year old’s recovery

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has given more time to the Gujranwala Police for recovery of a 14-year-old girl abducted 4 months ago.

Superintended of Police (investigation) appeared before the court and assured that the police had made considerable progress in the investigation and that the culprits would soon be arrested.

Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif took up the issue after Irshad Bibi of Gujrat, the girl’s mother approached him complaining that the police was not taking the case seriously.

Advocate Azhar Siddique, the counsel for Irshad Bibi, told the court that the girl was abducted 6 months ago and the police failed to recover her.

He alleged that some influential people of the area were pressurising the police not to follow the case.

Earlier, the police had informed the court that the allegedly kidnapped girl had married against her parents’ will and was living with her husband. The police asked for more time to complete the investigations.

Irshad Bibi had told the CJ that that her 14-year-old daughter was abducted on Oct 10, 2009. She informed that an FIR under section 365-B of Pakistan Penal Code was lodged against the accused at Kukrali police station in Gujrat. She alleged that the accused were well-connected and they were forcing her to revoke the FIR.

She further alleged that on Nov 28, 2009, the accused party entered her house and beat up her family. Following the incident, FIRs under sections 354/452/148/149 of PPC were registered at the same police station against the accused.

Irshad Bibi further informed the court that the accused have forcefully expelled her family, including 4 children, from the village.

LHC complaint cell in charge had earlier sought a report on the matter from the DPO Gujrat. The DPO had told the court that the women’s allegation appeared to be dubious. The girl had disappeared after quarrelling with her mother, the DPO claimed.
