ISLAMABAD:
The Brazilian embassy on Tuesday donated more than 380 books in English and Portuguese with DVDs and journals to Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad.
Brazil Ambassador Alfredo Leoni inaugurated the “Brazilian Corner” at the university’s library with QAU Vice Chancellor Dr Masoom Yasinzai. The newly-built corner, on the second floor of the library, is equipped with computers.
Yasinzai said the corner is part of the increasing cooperation between Brazil and Pakistan to develop increased academic links.
“Through the corner, thousands of QAU students will have access to necessary information to develop academic researches about Brazil and thus, increase ties that link Brazilians and Pakistanis,” said the Brazilian envoy.
To celebrate the corner’s inauguration and to encourage use of the new resources, the Brazilian embassy has also launched an essay contest for university students.
According to library officials, any Pakistani university student can participate by sending an essay about the cultural diversity of Brazil and have a chance at winning cash prizes ranging from Rs0.2 to Rs0.5 million.
In addition, computers were also donated to the Area Studies Centre of the university to facilitate university students to hold video-conferencing with Brazilian universities.
