KRL start campaign with resounding win

Defending champions defeat Wapda 3-1 in PPFL.

KARACHI: Defending Champions KRL broke Wapda’s undefeated run in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) with an impressive 3-1 win in their opening match of the league at the KPT Stadium yesterday.

KRL were the last team to begin their campaign as they participated in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President’s Cup in Malaysia last month to become the first Pakistani club to reach the final.

Captain Samar Ishaq scored the opening goal of the match in the 12th minute as KRL led 1-0 at the interval.

Muhammad Rizwan doubled the lead in the 60th minute and striker Kaleemullah, who was also the top scorer last season, sealed victory in the 77th. Arif Mehmood scored the only goal for Wapda in the 81st minute.

Meanwhile, Pak-Afghan Clearing Agency (Paca) stunned NBP 2-1 to record their second win of the season. NBP took the lead in the 30th minute of the match with Javed Hamza’s goal but Paca’s Hazrat Maaz and Abdul Hadi scored a goal each in the second-half.

Despite the defeat, NBP continue to occupy second place with 19 points. It was their fifth defeat out of a total of 12 matches.

Muslim FC also climbed to the third spot with 18 points after defeating HBL 2-0 while Afghan FC thrashed Navy 4-0 at the KMC Stadium.
