Islamic economies have a lot to offer the world: Nawaz
Calls for responsible exploitation of resources, scientific progress and human resource development.
LONDON:
Having a combined Gross Domestic Product (GDP) worth $6.6 trillion, the Islamic countries have a lot to give to the world, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said at the ninth World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) on Tuesday.
The WIEF is being jointly organised by Malaysia and UK from October 29 to 31, 2013 in London.
Commenting on the vast natural resources possessed by the Islamic countries, Nawaz said these Muslim states connect the East with the West.
Speaking about the challenges faced by the world as a whole, Nawaz said Islamic countries should focus on responsible exploitation of resources, scientific progress and human resource development.
He lauded the forum for all its achievements in the last eight years.
Stressing on the effects of globalisation and easy availability of information, Nawaz said that economies should strive to improve the quality of their products as consumers have multiple options available.
The prime minister thanked British Prime Minister David Cameron for taking great interest in the forum.
This is the forum’s first annual event in Europe following its previous successes in Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Kuwait and Pakistan.
