ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday challenged the appointment of Qamar Zaman Chaudhry as National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) chairman in the Supreme Court, Express News reported.

A request in this regard was submitted in the apex court, asking that Qamar Zaman be removed from his seat and his appointment declared illegal.

Advocate Hamid Khan submitted a 13-page request on behalf of Imran.

Appointment

The Law Ministry had issued the notification for the formal appointment of Qamar Zaman as the new Chairman of NAB on October 10.

The post for NAB Chairman was lying vacant since May 28 this year when the Supreme Court had termed the appointment of Admiral (retired) Fasih Bukhari as illegal.

PTI had challenged his appointment earlier this month, giving several reasons for going to the court against Qamar Zaman.

An official statement issued on behalf of PTI by Dr Shireen Mazari had stated that the appointment served to undermine the letter and spirit of the law as Qamar Zaman had applied for retirement after his announcement was made and the process was hastily completed within 24 hours.
