Autumn season might have taken over the capital but flowers could still be seen at full bloom on Monday at the annual general meeting of The Floral Art Society of Pakistan’s Islamabad chapter.

The society organised a competition titled “Let’s Create” in which embers from Lahore, Peshawar and Karachi also took part.

The arrangements were judged by Mrs. Ambreen Irfan from Lahore, Mrs. Nafisa Tapal and Mrs. Salma Ansari from Karachi.

Renowned Sogetsu expert Nafisa Tapal who also happens to be the first Pakistani to have become a local teacher for the Japanese Ikebana School, also gave a demonstration on the occasion titled ‘Kolachi’. She was assisted by Salma Ansari, instructor at the Designscape Studio. Sogetsu dates back to 1927.

The demonstration showed the many aspects of Karachi and paid tribute to a brave woman ‘Mai Kolachi’ from whom the city takes its name.

The chief guest, Australian Ambassador Susan Hayward gave away the prizes at the end. Those who excelled included Ghazala Abdullah whose arrangement was termed ‘best in the show’ while Tabassam Rizvi was announced the runner up. Wiqar-un-Nisa Boolani was awarded for ‘best use of colour’ and Hina Kamran won the first prize in the junior category.
