Asset declaration: ECP restores membership of 20 parliamentarians

ISLAMABAD:
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has restored the membership of 20 parliamentarians on Monday, after they submitted the details of their assets and liabilities.

A notification was issued in this regard by ECP.

Earlier, on October 15 ECP had suspended the membership of parliamentarians who had failed to submit the account of their assets in the light of sub-section (3) of section 42 A of the Representation of the Peoples Act and section 25 A of the Senate Election Laws.


After the receipt of statement though after the lapse of almost 25 days, the Commission notified that as these members have fulfilled the obligation laid out by the sub-section (1) of Section 42 A of the Representation of the People Act, 1976, that every member shall, submit a statement of assets and liabilities of his own, his spouse and dependents annually to the Commission by the thirtieth day of September each year, ECP is pleased to restore, subject to all just exceptions, the membership of these members. Consequently, the Commission's notification of October 22 stands modified to this extent accordingly.

Members whose membership has been restored include Senator Faisal Raza Abidi and MNAs Abdul Rehman Khan Kanju (NA-155 Lodhran-II), Shah Jehan Baloch (NA-248 Karachi-X) and Alizeh Iqbal Haider, a female member elected on a reserved seat for women.

Among the members belonging to provincial assemblies, the members are Masood Shafqat (PP-189 Okara-V), Ali Abbas (PP-192 Okara-VIII), Waheed Asghar Dogar (PP-224 Sahiwal-V), and Abdul Majeed Khan Niazi (PP-262Layyah-I) from Punjab Assembly; Muhammad Ali Bhutto (PS-37Larkana-III), Bashir Ahmed Halepoto (PS-55 Badin-cum-T.M.Khan(I)(Old Badin-I), Jameel Ahmed Bhurgari (PS-67 Mirpurkhas-cum-Umerkot ­Old Mirpurkhas-IV), Sania (PS-109 Karachi-XXI) and Mukesh Kumar Chawla, a member elected on seat reserved for non-Muslims from SindhAssembly; Muhammad Arif (PK-22 Charsadda-VI), Muhammad Khan Bahadur(PK-23 Mardan-I), Muhammad Zahid Durrani (PK-24 Mardan-II), IftikharAli Mashwani (PK-26 Mardan-IV), Ziaullah Khan Bangash (PK-38Kohat-II), Sardar Zahoor Ahmed (PK-53 Mansehra-I) from K-P Assembly; and Dr Shama Ishaq Baloch, a member elected on a reserved seat for women from Balochistan Assembly.
