QUETTA:

A car bomb exploded on Saturday, killing two Frontier Corps (FC) personnel on the Quetta-Taftan highway in Dringarh area of Mastung district.

FC and Balochistan Levies were escorting five passenger buses of Shia pilgrims, when they spotted a suspicious car parked by the roadside, officials said.

“The buses halted, and two FC men got off their vehicle to search the vehicle.  As they approached it, the car exploded, killing both of them on the spot,” Mastung Assistant Commissioner Shafqat Anwar told The Express Tribune.

“It was a remote-controlled detonation that aimed to target Shia pilgrims, however pilgrims onboard the five buses remained unhurt,” he said, adding that security had been beefed up in the wake of increased attacks on Shia pilgrims increased.
