‘Corruption’: Railways official arrested

A senior Pakistan Railways officer and former divisional superintendent was arrested on Sunday on charges of corruption.


Railway Police officials said misconduct and corruption charges had been filed against Muhammad Ali Rajpar. They said Clerk Malik Riaz and Special Ticket Examiner Sarfaraz Khan, were also found guilty in an inquiry.

They said Rajpar had broken rules in promoting people in his department and making temporary appointments. They said the team was set up by Railways Inspector General Syed Ibne Hussain formed to investigate Rajpar. It was headed by Special Branch DSP Syed Ameer Hussain Shah.

They said Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique had received several complaints against the officer.  They said criminal cases under Section 161 (committing affray), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.)

Rajpar was arrested from Lahore and Malik Riaz was arrested from Multan.
