KARACHI:

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has condemned the alleged torture of one of its workers.

The former unit-in-charge of MQM’s Burnes Road sector, Dilshad Ahmed Khan, is currently in a coma at a private hospital, said the party. “Dilshad was tortured while in custody,” said the statement. According to the party, Khan was picked up from Pakistan Chowk by law enforcement agencies on October 23. Two days later, he was handed over to his family in critical condition. He was initially taken to Civil hospital but later shifted to a private hospital.

Meanwhile, the Rangers denied that Dilshad was tortured in custody and claimed he was handed over to his brother safe and sound. “He was released a day after he was arrested because of his heart condition.” The spokesperson said that Dilshad’s condition was fine. “We have copies of the hand-over procedure.”
