Mother goes to court against men blackmailing girl
Victim’s relatives allegedly made an indecent video, threatened to sell it in markets.
KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notice to the home secretary, city police chief and others on a petition seeking action against police officials and private persons who were allegedly threatening to release an ‘indecent’ video of a young girl.
The bench ordered the home secretary and Police IG to file their comments by the next date of hearing.
The girl’s mother had asked the SHC last week to order the police authorities to confiscate the CD containing her daughter’s footage forcibly obtained by a private person.
The provincial home secretary, Police IG, District West DIG, Investigations SSP, Surjani Town investigation officer Tariq and Inspector Haider Ali of the Azizabad police station, Zahid Muhammad Naeem and Razia, alias Lado, were named as respondents.
The petitioner said that she had gone to attend a wedding ceremony on September 20 and her 17-year-old daughter was alone at home. In her absence, her relative, Razia alias Lado, along with her son, came to her house and forced her daughter to strip at gunpoint and made a movie of her.
“Later, they demanded that the petitioner give her daughter’s hand in marriage to them, otherwise, the movie would be sold in the market,” the lawyer stated. An FIR No. 517/2013 of the incident was registered against the accused at the Surjani town police station but no action had been taken so far.
On October 6, the petitioner and her daughter had gone to the market, where the same persons repeated their demand and also threatened to attack her with acid.
The lawyer informed the court that instead of taking action against the accused, the investigation officers of Surjani Town and Azizabad police stations started blackmailing the petitioner to pay money as bribe.
The court was pleaded to direct the police chief to take stern action against the private persons as well as the policemen for blackmailing the petitioner. It was also requested to assign the investigation of the case to an honest officer and order the confiscation of the CDs.
After the initial hearing, the bench headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah issued notice to the home secretary, AIG Karachi, DIG West range, SSP Investigation, IO Tariq of Surjani town police, Inspector Haider Ali of Azizabad police station and the accused to file comments by November 5.
