KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidate Zubair Khan has filed a request for thumbprint verification of the votes cast in NA-256 constituency during the May 11 elections, Express News reported on Saturday.

Muttahida Quami Movement’s (MQM) candidate Iqbal Muhammad Khan had won the constituency.

Zubair has requested for investigation at 66 polling stations of the constituency.

The hearing of the case will take place on November 9 and the returning officers will also be summoned to court for failing to provide the voter lists of 10 polling stations.

Rigging in NA-256 constituency

The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) had earlier unearthed massive rigging in the National Assembly constituency, NA-256 (Karachi), in the May 11 elections.

According to a report submitted by the authority before an election tribunal on October 7, over 57,000 votes could not be verified in the constituency where 5,893 duplicate and 1,950 fake votes were cast.

According to Nadra invalid Computerised National Identity Cards were mentioned on 11,343 used counterfoils, while 791 voted were found to be out of the constituency.

PTI's stance

On October 8, PTI’s chairman Imran Khan during a press conference in Lahore had said that “record rigging” took place in the May 11 elections in the NA-256 constituency. He had expressed fear that the by-elections would see similar rigging if action was not taken.

He had further said that the people involved, including the returning officers, should be held accountable for what they have done.

MQM’s stance

MQM has maintained that there is a difference between an “unverified vote” and a “fake vote”, and it was not the party’s responsibility to ensure that the ballot papers during the general elections were of good quality or that magnetic ink was used for thumb impressions.

MQM leader Faisal Subzwari had said that votes could not be verified in other constituencies as well, but only the one where an MQM candidate won was highlighted.

Correction: In an earlier version of this article, NA-256 was incorrectly mention as NA-265 once. The error has been fixed.

@Sophya Khan: lol. No, I never said "I was a PTI supporter" - I am a PTI supporter, have been since 1997. You should read twice before you start blowing the flame thrower on me. I am already cooked by the GST hikes and power tariffs. This is what I said, lol : "I, being a PTI voter, would really like to see Faisal Subzwari go down. " You have highlighted the evident problems with MQM: "ghundagardi and telephonic khitaabs" But you must understand that the party, like most of the other political parties, has lost the true spirit it was constituted upon. Supporting them would be a blatant misinformed concurrence of the vile actions they reek through the city like extortion and terrorism. It is imperative that we align to Pakistan rather than parties, because nearly all parties have let us down, MQM is no different: Ask the ones who have to pay extortion money monthly just so that can run a factory doing 100% legit business. Lastly, the MQM leader doesn't come back to Pakistan because there are 200+ murder cases against him registered, just pause and think. If he were a true man of his word, he would have come down here to tackle the government regarding its policies. No sir, London phone khitaab zindabad. A circumlocution to a rat. Nothing more.

@The Failed Rebel: this is the best you can come up with? this is the 4th point in the PMLN manual for anti-PTI comments... "I was a PTI Supporter..." no you never were a PTI supporter sir, and to Sabzwari saab, dear sir, unverified votes is one thing, but lets talk about verified votes. one person casting 35 votes... what you say to this? the difference between counterfoils and the ballots? NADRA is only revealing the obvious... everybody knows you people do it but please do it with care, like on 11 May, Nabil Gabol's const results: 178000 votes total, Gabol got 170000 and the result is out like just 2 hours after the closing time! but that is not all, Gabol could not visit his const Lyari in his 5 years term with PPP and he cannot visit Lyari even after getting such a heavy mandate... really? who voted for him if he is afraid to face his const people?

In my opinion, MQM is still much much better than PPP and PMLN and JUIF but the only problem is they do not want to be a national party instead of ethnic and the second and most important reason is the ghundagardi and telephonic khitaabs..get rid of these problems, and nobody can stop you from sweeping the whole country
