Criminal creativity: Police bust gang of suspected robbers

The Islamabad Police has busted two gangs of suspected robbers including one which was allegedly involved in using public transport vehicles to rob passengers, a police spokesman said on Friday.


According to the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), the suspects told the police that they used to ply commuter vans in Tarnol and Bhara Kahu in the guise of public transporters. Some of their accomplices would pretend to be passengers and they would steal cash and valuables from other passengers who would get on the bus along the route. The police said robbers usually snatched the valuables after taking the vehicle to some deserted place.

The suspects have been identified as Zahid Ali, Fazal, Saeed, Bilal, Aamir, Asif, Murad, Hayat Khan and an Afghan national Niaz. They confessed, according to police officials, to being involved in over a dozen robbery incidents. Six criminal cases are already registered against these suspects in Bhara Kau and Tarnol police stations, the police said.



Senior Superintendent Police Muhammad Rizwan and Superintendent Police (Investigation) Muhammad Ilyas constituted a special team headed by Deputy Superintendent Police CIA Bashir Ahmed Noon including sub-inspectors Shams Akbar, Mansoor Ahmed, ASIs Abdul Hafiz, Altaf Hussain and others. This team investigated several robbery complaints and succeeded to arrest 12 people besides recovering a vehicle (LES-4677), four pistols and ammunition from the suspects.

The CIA police team also busted another gang of robbers suspected of involvement in several robberies in the Koral area. These suspects have been identified as Mubeen Khan, Sufyan, Hidayatullah and the police recovered 30-bore pistols and ammunition from them.
