BAHAWALPUR:

A man was killed on Friday allegedly by his in-laws in Muhammad Murad Dahar area near Rahim Yar Khan.

Zahirpir police have arrested two relatives of the suspects and registered an FIR on the complaint of the brother of the deceased. The nominated suspects are at large.

Muhammad Amin* told police that his brother Muhammad Sadaqat had married Saleema Bibi seven years ago and had been living at her parents’ house. He said Sadaqat had recently discovered that his mother-in-law was having an illicit relationship with a neighbour.

He said he had been confronting her that caused frequent argument between them. Amin said his brother had shared it with him as well and told him that his mother-in-law’s lover Muhammad Akbar visited their house often, and that he had confronted her, but she had threatened to throw him out of the house.

On Friday, he said, Sadaqat again had an argument with his mother-in-law when he found Akbar and his friend Maqbool inside the house. He said his mother-in-law, Akbar and Maqbool attacked him with bricks. Saleema Bibi and her sister also helped them. They then strangled him, killing him on the spot.

They fled the scene. Some neighbours had seen them all leave the house in a rush and informed the police. Police said the suspects have been missing. They said two of their relatives had been arrested for investigation.

Sadaqat’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination to Shaikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan. Doctors said there were marks around his neck. They said he had apparently survived the brick blows, and died from the strangling.

Police said they were looking for the suspects and raiding their relatives’ houses.
