Crackdown: Police arrests 24 people from Pishtakhara in search operation

PESHAWAR: Around 24 people were arrested in a search operation carried out within the jurisdiction of Pishtakhara police station on the city’s outskirts on Friday.

Jointly conducted by police and security forces, the operation was launched in the morning and continued for several hours.

“The operation was basically conducted by the police but a contingent of Pakistan Army also assisted,” said an official of the local police station, adding the 24 arrests were made on the basis of suspicion and five of them were proclaimed offenders wanted by police in different cases.



According to the official, five TT pistols, four AK-47 rifles, a shotgun and 200 cartridges were taken into custody as well.

“The operation was intended against criminals in the area and we are now interrogating the arrested suspects,” he explained, adding the area was completely cordoned off during the operation.

In a similar operation conducted on Thursday morning, 200 suspects were arrested from areas falling under Yakatoot police station, including Danishabad, Saddat Town, Rashid Garhi and Zargarabad. The crackdowns are being conducted ahead of Muharram to avert any untoward incident planned by terrorists.

Revenue department driver kidnapped

Meanwhile, Shaukat, a driver in the provincial revenue department and a resident of Sangu, was kidnapped at gunpoint from his village on Thursday night.

According to the police, Shaukat was returning from work late at night when armed men bundled him into a car. Police speculated Shaukat might have been shifted to Shalober in adjacent Khyber Agency.
