ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said that government can generate three hundred billion rupees by bringing tax evaders under the tax net, adding that a bill on austerity measures will be introduced in the National Assembly soon.
Addressing a press conference at Islamabad, PTI Chairman said Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has identified 3 million tax evaders in the country, and that the government can immediately generate up to Rs300 billion by making these tax evaders pay Rs100,000 each in a deal. He further said that by plugging sales tax evasion, amounting to 35 per cent, government can further generate Rs250 billion.
Imran said that government should also widen the tax net by bringing the agriculture and property sectors under the tax net. Government should also introduce Capital Gains Tax, the PTI chief suggested.
On measures to bring relief to the poor, Imran suggested that the government immediately rollback the GST and increase in power tariff.
The PTI chief urged that austerity measures should be introduced and convert all the governor houses in the country into public buildings. Further, he said that provinces should have at the most one Chief Minister house and their expenses should be made public.
He further demanded that reforms should be introduced to make FBR an autonomous institution.
