ICC should apologise: Mani

Former International Cricket Council chairman Ehsan Mani seeks apology from cricket’s governing body for PCB.

KARACHI:
Former International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Ehsan Mani has sought an apology from cricket’s governing body for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the ICC failed to find evidence of match-fixing in the third One-Day International at The Oval.

“In the ICC’s opinion, it was okay to launch an inquiry on based on newspaper reports but the way the ICC openly thanked The Sun for the report was unacceptable and it should now apologise,” Mani told The Express Tribune. “I’m very happy to see Pakistan come out clean from the allegations because they could’ve had a disastrous effect on our cricket which is already facing spot-fixing claims.”

‘ICC warning an eye-opener’

Mani termed the 30-day deadline given by the ICC, to bring reforms in the PCB administration and implementation of other instructions, as ‘a warning from the world body’.

“The ICC, by setting a deadline, has said that the PCB is dysfunctional which is an eye-opener and I’m worried. The PCB, which has been a full member of the ICC for decades, has never been questioned regarding it’s competency in such a manner.”

He felt that the PCB’s set-up, which gives sweeping powers to the chairman, urgently needed reforms in order to put matters back on track.

“The power should be divided because if a chairman is incompetent then the whole set-up would get dysfunctional.  The current board, led by Ijaz Butt, has failed in performing and changes should be made.”
