Lahore Lions become first team to qualify for Faysal Bank Twenty20 Cup semi-finals.

Lahore Lions became the first team to qualify for the Faysal Bank Twenty20 Cup semi-finals after they humiliated Multan Tigers by nine wickets. The Lions, who finished with three wins out of three, overhauled a modest 93-run target in the 15th over with Umar Akmal unbeaten on 68 in a virtual quarter-final after both teams had two wins out of two games.

Lions’ win was set up by Abdul Razzaq and Shabbir Ahmed who shared five wickets between them to demolish the Tigers. Razzaq took three for 12 while Ahmed claimed two for 21.

Consolation for Falcons

Abbottabad Falcons earned a consolation first win in the tournament through a six-wicket defeat of Peshawar Panthers. While the Panthers head home after a win-less campaign, Falcons owed their victory to their bowlers who dismissed the opposition for a paltry 123. Spinner Yasir Shah took three wickets and had captain Younus Khan stumped to make his day extra special.

In reply, the Falcons were guided past the finish line through Adnan Raees (58) as they completed the job in the 19th over.

Leopards shine in close win

Islamabad Leopards survived a brutal onslaught by Shoaib Khan to register a thrilling four-run win against Quetta Bears in their first match of the tournament. Bears, who have been ruled out of a semi-final clash after their second defeat, tried hard as they attempted to chase the 150-run target.

However, captain Shoaib Akhtar and Rao Iftikhar, who bowled the final over, ensured Khan’s valiant knock of 66 off just 46 deliveries went in vain.

However, a small consolation for the Bears captain Jalat Khan, named man of the match, came in the form of four wickets albeit in a losing cause.
