Policy on on spectrum auction issued: IT Minister

PTA must ensure the timely and successful spectrum auction, says minister.

ISLAMABAD: WIth the matter having dragged on for years, the Minister of State for IT and Telecom Anusha Rahman said that the spectrum auction policy has been issued and that it was now the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) job to ensure a timely and successful auction, Radio Pakistan reported.

During her visit to the PTA headquarters in Islamabad, Rahman assured the prospective investors of full government support and complete transparency in the auction of next generation mobile services in Pakistan.

PTA Chairman Dr Syed Ismail Shah briefed the minister on different aspects of the spectrum auction.

Shah informed that the mobile subscribers in Pakistan would be able to transmit and receive high speed data through their cell phones once the next generation services are launched.

During the day minister also chaired a meeting to review the performances of the Telephon Industries of Pakistan (TIP).

“It is inevitable that the country’s assets are used efficiently and effectively for prosperity and growth of the nation and to contribute towards the nation’s future financial stability so as to accelerate upward economic mobility”, said the Minister, addressing the meeting.

Additional Secretary IT Azmat Ranjha and senior officials of TIP and IT ministry were also present at the meeting.

Right now is the time for 4G and 4G LTE, not 3G!
