FAISALABAD:

Grade-IV employees at the district headquarters hospital boycotted work on Thursday and demanded regularisation of their services.

The protesters sat in front of the hospital and shouted slogans. They held placards with messages condemning the hospital administration’s delay despite government orders.

Muhammad Mubeen, one of the protesters, told The Express Tribune that all the protesting employees had been hired on contract jobs. He said later in April, the government had announced its decision to regularise services of all contractual employees in all departments. He said a notification was also issued to the DHQ hospital administration in this regard, but the employees still awaited regularisation.

He said the employees had reminded the medical superintendent about the government notice, but he had not acted on the order.

The protesters said that the hospital administration was depriving them of their right.

On Thursday, none of the grade IV employees reported to work.

Medical Superintendent Arif Ali said that the hospital administration was working on the government instructions.  He said paperwork was involved and it took time to change employment status of a worker.

He said when a workers’ delegation met him a few weeks ago, he had explained the procedure and how long it would take.

He said the employees were pushing the administration for confirmation letter, which he said, would take time.

He said the workers were being impatient.

“It’s not as if we can move a magic wand in the air and get everything done. There is a lot of paper work required and it is time consuming,” he said.
