Uplift schemes: Projects worth Rs510 for farmers

Farmers will be given 50 per cent subsidies.

RAWALPINDI: The Agency for Barani Area Development has chalked out two projects worth Rs510.10 million for rural areas and has sent a summary to the Punjab government’s Planning and Development (P&D) department for approval. The two projects are ‘Rainwater for rural areas of Potohar” and “Pilot project for thrive of alternative energy in common areas”. P&D Director General Tariq Javed Malik said the alternative energy project is a pilot scheme under which tube-wells will be converted to solar pumps from diesel engines. It will be started in areas where electricity is unavailable and farmers there would be provided with 60 per cent subsidies. He said the other project costs around Rs500 million and farmers will be given 50 per cent subsidies.
