Strategic dialogue key to Pakistan-US ties: Nawaz tells Biden

Biden praised the Premier’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region.

Before he meets with US President Barack Obama at the White House, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met with Vice President Joe Biden for breakfast on Wednesday where the former emphasised the significange of the revived Strategic Dialogue in strenghtening bilateral ties.

In addition to discussing the regional security situation, the two emphasised on the need to focus on promoting cooperation in trade and investment‚ energy‚ education‚ science and technology sectors to strengthen bilateral ties. Biden added that Washington would continue its contribution in helping Pakistan to over come its energy crisis.

The US vice president said that the US recognises sacrifices Pakistan has made in the war on terror.


Afghanistan

Nawaz reiterated Pakistan's commitment to facilitate an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.

Both leaders agreed on the need to further strengthen the coordination and cooperation among Pakistan‚ the US and Afghanistan to ensure success of the reconciliation process.

Separately, Nawaz also met Secretary Treasury Jacob J Lew during the day.
