In-house cleaning: Police official booked for taking bribe
Several other officials also terminated over various charges.
RAWALPINDI:
The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) on Tuesday nabbed a sub-inspector posted at the Saddar Baironi Police Station for accepting bribes. Inspector Ramzan Kamboh told The Express Tribune that Sub-Inspector Iftikhar was caught red-handed while taking a bribe from the family members of a robbery accused, Irfan Gohar.
Iftikhar was allegedly demanding Rs200,000 from Gohar’s family for his release from prison.
The suspected robber’s brother, Noman Gohar, informed Inspector Kamboh about the demand. Kamboh gave him marked currency notes and asked him to pay off the police officer with them.
When Noman handed over the money, totaling Rs20,000, a team of the Anti-Corruption Department led by Judicial Magistrate Ahmad Hasan Ranjha raided the station and caught the Iftikhar.
They recovered the marked currency from his possession and arrested him on the spot. Noman said it was the ‘second installment’ of the payoff.
Meanwhile, City Police Officer (CPO) Bilal Kamyana also terminated three police officers on charges of misusing authority, poor performance and disobeying court orders.
The terminated police officers are Head Constable Muhammad Basharat and constables Faisal Mahmood and Nasir Mehmood.
The CPO also terminated the services of Sub-Inspectors Fateh Khan and Hassan Raza, head constables Muhammad Arif and Muhammad
Ishaq and constable Raheel Safdar.
Kamyana also demoted Qaiser Rasheed Kiyani, Khizar Hayat and ASI Aslam Pervez on charges of negligence.
Besides, ACE has registered corruption cases against a sub-inspector and 16 constables.
