MINGORA: Around 52 new dengue patients were identified in Swat on Tuesday, pushing the total number of infected people to 8,872, according to the District Health Office.

The patients were admitted to Saidu Teaching Hospital (STH) after they tested positive for the disease, taking the number of dengue patients registered with the STH to 4,862.

“Currently, 131 patients, including 99 males and 32 females, are hospitalised,” said STH Spokesperson Dr Wasil Ahmad Khan, adding 13 are in critical condition and under treatment at the intensive care unit. He said 32 patients were discharged on Tuesday, taking the number of cured patients to 4,572.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Shaukat Yousafzai paid a surprise visit to STH after receiving public complaints.

Yousafzai visited the dengue ward, met patients and heard their grievances following which he ordered the hospital administration to provide all facilities to patients.

Speaking to the media later, Yousafzai said the government was keen on improving the conditions of public hospitals in the province and various measures have been taken for this purpose.

“The shortage of medical staff is being addressed while the provision of free medication and medical tests has also been ensured since our government came into power,” said the minister.

Abdullah Khan | 11 years ago | Reply There is a management cadre in health department of KP. All its members are Master in public health and Also trained by GTZ for managing Epidemic. Majority of them have post graduate diplomas or certificate courses even some are epidemiologist but they are working in dispensary or BHU examining Routine OPD patients and the General cadre doctors are setting on managment cadre seats only because they have political backing or blue eyed of Health Secretary or chief secretary. The LHW program in charge and MNCH in charge were transferred to these seats by caretakers government and disobeying The courts clear cut orders of Canceling all the these transfers did by caretaker , they are still setting on these seats. Only LHWP are capable to control this Epidemic b/c they are trained for it but incompetent management of LHWP and Health department and also the Media Background health minister are only giving press statements and doing nothing and he and his chief minister are visiting the teaching hospitals Suspending doctors for not examining their constituency patients. After the deaths of more than 60 persons no body has a clear vision to control the Epidemic. Non sense ministers and their PTI government.
