RAWALPINDI:

The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested a revenue official for taking a bribe on Tuesday.

ACE Director Chaudhry Zulfiqar received a complaint from Malik Mohammad Younas, a resident of Quaid-e-Azam colony.

Younas said he had contacted Iftikhar Ali, a revenue officer, for issuance of Fard — a certificate of possession — but he demanded Rs120,000. He said a deal was struck at Rs50,000 which was paid and the Fard was accordingly issued.

Younas again contacted Ali for the entry of a mutation regarding the registered sale deed. Ali demanded Rs10,000 but agreed to receive Rs5,000.

The complainant said he was not inclined to pay the amount but was forced to do so. Zulfiqar asked the circle officer to conduct a raid under the supervision of a magistrate.

The raiding team recovered tainted currency notes of Rs5,000 and Rs55,000 in total from the possession of the revenue official and arrested him on the spot.

Zulfiqar said the provincial government has introduced an online land record system to minimise people’s complaints regarding the revenue department. He encouraged people to register complaints with ACE so legal action can be taken against the accused.
