NAB brawl to shift to Supreme Court
PML-N to challenge NAB chairman’s appointment in Supreme Court while two more petitions are filed in SHC.
ISLAMABAD:
The PML-N, as expected, has decided to challenge the appointment of Justice (retd) Deedar Hussain Shah as the new chairman of NAB in the Supreme Court.
In a high level meeting in Islamabad PML-N’s Nawaz Sharif directed the leader of the opposition, Chaudhry Nisar, to file a petition challenging the appointment.
The PML -N contends that as stipulated by the 18th amendment, the government should have consulted the opposition leader before appointing the NAB chairman.
Chaudhry Nisar has written a letter to the Prime Minister, Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, in this regard.
The appointment of Justice (retd) Deedar Hussain Shah has already been challenged in Lahore and Sindh High courts.
More petitions in Sindh High Court
Meanwhile, another petition has been filed in the Sindh High Court challenging Deedar’s appointment today (Wednesday).
The petition has been filed by a Karachi based lawyer and alleges Deedar’s appointment was made without consulting the Chief Justice and is therefore illegal.
The petitioner has asked the court to stop the NAB Chairman from working until the case is decided.
Meanwhile, Advocate Sidique Mirza has also filed a similar petition against the NAB Chairman in the Sindh High Court.
