According to a report by Pemra, it has started an operation against illegal FM radio stations in different cities of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa including Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Kohat, and Lakki Marwat.

Militant activists had been promoting negative and sectarian propaganda through FM radio stations. Cases against the sealed FM radio stations were registered by Pemra in police stations in these areas before action was taken.
