Release of prisoners: Kabul denies JUI-F claim
The party’s deputy chief told reporters that 2,500 prisoners would be released as a result of the talks.

An Afghan official on Monday denied a statement by JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman that Afghanistan had agreed to release about 2,500 Pakistani prisoners. The issue had been raised by leaders of the JUI-F after talks in Kabul, Khaama Press reported. The party’s deputy chief, Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan had also told reporters on Saturday that 2,500 prisoners would be released as a result of the talks. Aimal Faizi, a spokesman for Afghan President Hamid Karzai, said JUI-F chief Fazl had asked only to release prisoners who were members of JUI-F. Faizi said Karzai told him he would consider reviewing the cases of Pakistani prisoners. Fazl had made the comments on his return from a visit to Kabul during which he and Karzai had discussed various issues, including Afghan peace process, the report said.
