MULTAN:

A man was taken to Mian Channu tehsil headquarters hospital on Monday after a homeopathic doctor he was having an affair with threw acid at him on learning that he was marrying a cousin.

Doctors treating the injured man said that a part of his face had burned. They also said he was at risk of losing vision in one eye. The woman was arrested and police claimed that she had confessed to the crime.

Police said 24-year-old Muhammad Naveed Ahmed of Faisal Town in Mian Channu had had an affair with Dr Naheed Chaudhry, 28, who ran a private clinic in Chak 114/15-L. They said he had first met her when he visited her clinic for treatment of his skin allergy.

Police said Ahmed’s parents had recently arranged his marriage with his cousin, but he had not disclosed this to Dr Chaudhry. Police said she learnt about Ahmed’s wedding on Sunday night through a common friend. The next day, they said, she called him at her clinic.

As soon as he entered the clinic, police said, she threw acid at his face. He managed to save his body, but his face was hurt. She fled the scene.

Ahmed was taken to a private clinic, from where he was referred to the THQ hospital, where doctors treating him said that his face was burned, with his eyes most affected. They said that it would take 72 hours to determine if Ahmed had lost sight.

A case has been registered against Dr Chaudhry. She was arrested a few hours later. Ahmed’s family said they had initially cancelled the wedding, but later decided to postpone it by just one day after the bride-to-be said that she was ready to marry Ahmed even if he lost his eyes.

@Doom I said the woman's action is AS worse as a man, obviously the way i've written it your perception is different. Wording is important then. Anyone who does this regardless of gender is a terrible human being.

This is despicable. My husband was also recently attacked with acid by an ex girlfriend. Anyone who does not condemn this atrocity may as well stop calling themselves human. This is a violation of Human Rights tri-able under sections 336-A and 336-B, Criminal Law (2nd) Amendment Act 2011, specifically legislated for acid crime. Under these sections perpetrators must be punished with a minimum of 14 years imprisonment and minimum fine of Rs 1 million. Unfortunately, many police officers are not aware of this legislation. I would like to request anybody who has access to this family to inform them of these sections.
