Evidence from the October 18, 2007 Karsaz blast was destroyed systematically just like the December 27, 2007 blast in Rawalpindi, said Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon.
More than 150 people were killed and over 500 injured in twin explosions near the bombproof truck of Benazir Bhutto as an overjoyed rally accompanied her from airport on her return from exile.
“It was the responsibility of the then government to conduct an inquiry, but it failed miserably,” Sharjeel said.
He was talking to reporters while visiting the monument of the blast on the sixth anniversary of the tragedy.
He said that as cases related to the tragedy were going in the court of law, “we hope justice will be served and the perpetrators punished.”
He said biggest sacrifice for democracy in the country was given by the martyrs of the Karsaz blast, “it was due to the fallen of the Karsaz blast that democracy has taken roots in the country.”
PPP Karachi president Abdul Qadir Patel said that the anti-democracy forces were behind the Karsaz blast.
Meanwhile, the Sindh information minister in a statement said that opponents have always criticised PPP, but they should have the political maturity to bear criticism too.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has announced to contest the 2018 elections that would see the victory of PPP. “The PPP is working for the prosperity of the people and its leadership is living among the masses, solving their problems,” Sharjeel said.
He said that no other political party could match the sacrifices of PPP. “Due to the sacrifices of PPP leaders, there was democracy in Pakistan. The PPP is the only political party which commands support of the people of all four provinces,” he added.
