“It’s the third day of Eid but we have been deprived of electricity since the first day,” said Humayyun.

KARACHI:
“Old habits die hard,” said Muhammad Humayyun, refuting the power utility’s claims that no load-shedding would take place during Eidul Azha.
On Tuesday, a day before Eid, the Karachi Electric Supply Company had announced that the power supply would be uninterrupted from Tuesday 8pm till Saturday 8am. But residents knew better than to expect that KESC to keep its promises. “It’s the third day of Eid but we have been deprived of electricity since the first day,” Humayyun, a resident of Bihar Colony, told The Express Tribune.
“We received only one phase of electricity that damaged home appliances in various houses,” he added, while narrating the ordeal of his family. Similar complaints were received from other localities of the city with a population of at least 20 million. “Our Eid day started at 7am when the electricity supply was suspended for at least one hour without any announcement,” said a resident of Clifton’s Block-5.
Unlike the routine hours-long suspension, the power cuts were short in duration in most areas.
A resident of Shanti Nagar had similar complaints, saying that while there weren’t long power suspensions, the power utility failed to ensure uninterrupted supply. “On the first day of Eid, the electricity came and went,” he said. Similar experiences were shared by the residents of Sector 41 in Korangi. The KESC spokesperson was not available for comments despite repeated attempts.
