ISLAMABAD:

Mustajar Hussain never reached the mosque for Eid prayers.

Armed men gunned down Hussain and injured his older brother Sajid Hussain as the two were going to a local mosque in Mera Bhagwal, a village near Bhara Kahu on the outskirts of Islamabad on the first day of Eidul Azha.

The alleged murderers — two brothers and their father — had a blood feud with Hussain’s family, police said.

According to an FIR registered with the Bhara Kahu Police Station, suspects including Muhammad Siddiq and his sons Kabir and Sudheer ambushed Hussain and his brother near the mosque and opened fire on them with pistols.

Hussain, in his early 30s, was hit by five bullets, including one on his chest. He died before he could be taken to the Polyclinic Hospital, a police officer told The Express Tribune.

Sajid Hussain was injured in the attack, with a bullet hitting his jaw. He is under treatment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), the police officer said.

The police said the murder was a case of vendetta. A third brother was in jail for the murder of Siddiq’s daughter, according to the police.

“The most obvious motive is that Siddiq was trying to avenge the murder of his daughter,” the police officer said. “But we will conduct further investigation into the case.”

The police officer was unsure about details of the murder of Siddiq’s daughter and said the case was not yet assigned to an investigating officer because of Eid holidays.

The police have booked the suspects, who escaped from the scene, for murder and attempted murder. However, the police said no arrests have been made so far.
