Escalating tension: India violates ceasefire on the LoC, once again

Indian troops on Tuesday once again violated ceasefire in the disputed territory of Kashmir and opened shelling from across the Line of Control (LoC), injuring a woman.
The Indian shelling started at seven in the morning and hit the civilian population of Datoot village of Nakyal Tehsil of Kotli.
“The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital but she is out of danger now,”Nakyal Assistant Commissioner Chaudhry Ayub told The Express Tribune adding that the administration, the police and volunteers were put on high alert to tackle any untoward situation across the LoC.
“Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing in Nakyal Sector,” said a high ranking military official, confirming the violations.
FO and military’s reaction
Pakistan strongly reacted to Indian troops’ unprovoked firing in Nakyal Sector. Foreign Office Spokesperson Aizaz Chaudhry said Pakistan believed that ceasefire along the LoC must be respected.
“The decision of Nawaz Sharif and Manmohan Singh that Directors General Military Operations (MOs) should meet to resolve this matter must be implemented,” he said.
Violation stalled dialogues
“Ceasefire violations by Indian troops on the LoC have stalled the dialogue process between the two countries,” said Senate Chairman Nayyar Hussain Bukhari.
The people and the government of Pakistan were committed to settle all issues including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute through meaningful talks, he told the media. “We should avoid getting distracted by emotions and move ahead with positive thinking to settle all issues including the Kashmir dispute,” Bukhari advised.
