Power tariffs: FPCCI urges govt to review price hike

Muneer said this would make the Pakistani products uncompetitive.

KARACHI:
Former President Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Parton-in-Chief Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) SM Muneer on Tuesday expressed his concern over the recent increase in prices of electricity.

He said that the day to day increase in cost of production has made it difficult for the industries to compete in the foreign markets. He asked the government to review its decision in the larger interest of the country and for the sake of economic stability in particular. Muneer said that this would not only make the Pakistani products uncompetitive but will also enable countries like India, China and Bangladesh to benefit and lead the markets. He urged Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif to review the increase in electricity, gas and petroleum prices. President All Karachi Industrial Alliance, Mian Zahid Hussain said that the entire industrial sector has been facing multiple internal and external challenges and the recent increase would further dampen its progress.
