SUKKUR:
The husband of the slain social worker, Sahiba Mirani, was sent to jail after he confessed to his crime in court.
Sahiba was allegedly shot dead by her husband on September 20. Her husband, Ali Muhammad Mirani, was arrested on the same day and police also recovered the murder weapon from his possession.
Earlier, Ali Muhammad had not been ready to admit to the crime but as all the witnesses’ statements and evidence were against him, he confessed to killing Sahiba. He had, however, insisted that he had committed the act because of her illicit relations with another man. Sahiba’s colleagues, on the other hand, refuted these claims, saying that Sahiba was a simple woman and was not involved with anyone.
The case investigation officer, Hafiz Abdul Qadir Chachar, told The Express Tribune that the accused kept changing his statement before the police. “Sometimes, he accused Sahiba of being involved in illicit relations while at other times, he said he killed her because he wanted to marry someone else.” Sources claimed, however, that the motive behind the murder was reportedly money.
According to these sources, Sahiba had developed differences with her husband and had been living with her mother until August when her mother passed away. Her father had already died in 2010.
After her mother’s death, she had gone back to live with Ali Muhammad. Sources claimed that the reconciliation was part of Ali Muhammad’s conspiracy to kill her and usurp her money.
The deceased, Sahiba, used to work as social worker with Takhleeq Foundation in Ghotki. On September 20, Ali Muhammad reportedly picked her up from her office at about 5:30pm and her body was found near Dingro Wah near village Arib Kolachi after about half an hour.
