Banquet behind bars: Eid menu for prisoners

Prisoners in jails across the province will be served parathas, halwa, chicken quorma and pilao on Eidul Azha, Lahore Prisons DIG Mubashar Ahmad Khan said on Tuesday.

He said that the slaughter of cattle and chicken in prisons, housing more than 1,000 inmates, was supervised by a jail doctor and an assistant superintendent. He said that anyone who wanted to inspect the prisons’ slaughterhouse was welcome. “We make sure that each prisoner is served 2,800-3,000 calories every day,” he said, “Punjab is the first province to take stock of the nutritional value of food served to prisoners.”
