BANNU:
A private school for boys was partially damaged when a bomb planted along its rear wall exploded in Bakka Khel, Bannu on Tuesday.

According to a police official, a loud explosion was heard near Bakka Khel Mandi at 1am. He added police rushed to the area, however, the exact location of the explosion could not be ascertained.

A police team went out on Tuesday morning again and discovered unidentified militants had planted two bombs at Amir Public High School out of which one detonated, damaging the wall while the other one did not explode.

Bomb disposal squad (BDS) official Kismat Khan arrived at the site and defused the second bomb. According to Khan, the first bomb weighed five kilogrammes, while the second one weighed 16 kilogrammes.

“If the second bomb had exploded, the blast would have been powerful enough to raze the whole school building to the ground,” said Khan.

On September 5, at least 13 students and three men were injured when a bomb planted by unidentified militants exploded outside a girls primary school in Bannu city.

The explosion occurred in the afternoon when students were leaving the Girls Primary School No 1 after the end of the school day. BDS chief Wasal Khan said the bomb weighed two kilogrammes and was remote-controlled.
