Eid security: ‘3,000 policemen to cover all important places’
CPO says seven districts including Multan have been declared ‘sensitive’.

The police said on Tuesday it had completed a week-long crackdown and arrested 35 criminals and busted six gangs ahead of Eidul Azha.
City Police Officer Capt (r) Muhammad Shoaib told The Express Tribune police had recovered 15 stolen cars, 30 motorcycles and seized 19 rifles, 293 pistols, 147 revolvers, 43 shotguns, 120 kg hashish and 27,000 litres of liquor.
He said stolen goods worth Rs130 million had also been recovered in the crackdown.
“More than 3,000 policemen will be deployed at 850 congregations during Eid… the deployments would be monitored from a central control room at CPO’s office,” he said.
He said police officials had also been deployed at cattle markets and special groups of Elite police had would be on duty at the entrance and exit points of the sacrificial animal markets.
“Police will ensure that all parking spaces, donkey carts, beggars and offices of charity organisations are at least 300 meters away from where Eid prayers are offered,” he said.
In addition, he said the intelligence and security agencies including Special Branch had declared eight districts of the Punjab ‘most sensitive.’ These districts, he said, included Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Bhakkar and Dera Ghazi Khan.The CPO said the government had already told the regional police officers and the district police officers to ensure that no untoward incidents took place during Eid.
“The district and regional police have devised plans to counter incidents of terrorism by designating a special force in civilian clothing at public spots, picnic spots and prayer places during the three days,” he added.
Meanwhile, District Emergency Officer Dr Farhan told the media that the Eid holidays of Rescue 1122 officials had been cancelled. “I will personally look after arrangements in Multan district where 30 mobile medical posts have been set up,” he said.
He said 300 Rescue 1122 men would remain on alert. “Picnic spots along the rivers, canals and banks will be monitored by staff to save the lives of the people in case of any emergency,” he added.
