Nawaz suspends PCB board, but interim body retains Najam Sethi as chairman

The board shall remain suspended for not more than 90 days, unless extended by the patron.

LAHORE:
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is also the patron-in-chief of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), directed the board's suspension on Tuesday.

As per the directions given by PM Sharif, Paragraph Section 41 of the PCB Constitution has been amended.

According to the amendments, PCB's board is to be suspended.


An Interim Management Committee (IMC) has been constituted to ensure that PCB remains enabled to continue to perform day-to-day domestic and international functions for the promotion of the game, in line with the directions of the Islamabad High Court.

The committee will comprise of interim chairperson Najam Sethi, former PCB chairman Shaheryar Khan, former test cricketer Zaheer Abbas, former test cricketer Haroon Rasheed and former Pakistan Team Manager Naveed Cheema.

The IMC was directed to elect one of its member as chairperson since ICC Board meetings are scheduled to take place on October 18 and 19 in London. Najam Sethi was unanimously elected by the Committee for the post.

According to the directives of Prime Minister, the supersession of the board shall remain in force for a period of not more than 90 days, unless extended by the Patron.
