A batting collapse for the second match running seal Pakistan Women’s 93-run thrashing against West Indies in the ICC Women’s Cricket Challenge taking place in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
West Indies opener Stafanie Taylor laid the foundation of a formidable 256 that Pakistan were unable to chase down despite captain Sana Mir’s valiant 39. Taylor’s brilliant batting performance, where she hit 83, included a 118-run second-wicket partnership with captain Merissa Aguilleira and put Pakistan on the backfoot early in the match. Her 112-ball knock, that included three boundaries, was ended by a catch taken by Mir off spinner Nida Dar.
Aguilleira (50), who arrived in the middle after an early loss, was stumped off Dar after she showed great composure during her 85-ball knock. None of the other West Indies batters failed to contribute significantly to the score despite Pakistan’s poor performance with the ball in an effort that included 24 wides. Dar turned out to be Pakistan’s most expensive bowler giving away 61 runs in ten overs but managed to pick up a brace.
In reply, poor batting caused Pakistan’s downfall yet again. Nain Abidi (20) continued her brilliant form and looked set for yet another contribution before her aggressive but brief stay at the crease was ended by Deandra Dottin. Mir top-scored for Pakistan with a painfully-slow 39 that took 98 deliveries but was run-out for the second match running.
Shanel Daley was the most successful bowler for West Indies grabbing two wickets for just 25 runs.
